Towards Selection of Instructional Media for Effective Teaching and Learning of English as a Second Language in Secondary Schools


Based on the behavioural motivation theory of learning, the author of this paper describes the effect of the apt selection and use of instructional media on the teaching and learning of English as a second language in secondary schools. Two sets of questionnaire were administered respectively to ten teachers and eighty senior secondary school students drawn from five schools. In their responses to the questions, both of the respondents indicated the lack of utilization of instructional materials in the schools.sources, principles and selection. The author suggests ways towards improving the use of instructional aids in our secondary schools to enhance better learning.
